Sideburns could be associated with Elvis Presley; a sandwich could be associated with the Earl of Sandwich, to be precise, John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich, and First Lord of the (British) Admiralty, said to have originated the idea of the sandwich.
There would be many others, both before and since, who had sideburns or made Sandwiches, but these two people are perhaps the most famous for the fashion and the food.
The two innovators are connected in another way: Captain James Cook named some islands in the Pacific after the 4th Earl of Sandwich - the Sandwich Islands. Later, Elvis Presley made movies set in those islands, which we now call Hawaii.
Actually, there was a civil war General Burnsides who was known for his bushy sideburns and that is where the term originated.
