- The Mexican Revolution or Mexican Civil War was a major armed struggle that started in 1910, with an uprising led by Francisco I. Madero against longtime autocrat Porfirio DÃaz, and lasted until around 1920.
- Francisco I. Madero (1873-1913) was a reformist politician and writer who served as President of Mexico from 1911 to 1913.
- On May 21, 2000, Pope John Paul II canonized a group of 25 saints and martyrs arising from the Mexican Cristero War. The vast majority are Roman Catholic priests who were executed for carrying out their ministry despite the suppression under the anti-clerical laws of Plutarco ElÃas Calles. Priests who took up arms, however, were excluded from the process. The saints names are:
