No one. Women were not in Jamestown in 1609. They ate shoes, rats, and hunted for food. The Starving Time was during the winter between 1609 and 1610. During this period the settlers were forced to eat horses, dogs, snakes and rodents to survive. When supply ships arrived on May 24, 1610 after having been lost in a storm in the Bahamas they found a ruined colony rather than the thriving setlement they expected. Captian Gates decided to return with the survivors to England, however they encountered another fleet of supply ships when leaving, and therefore returned to the colony resupplied, and with a new stock of settlers.
