Rome expanded into central Italy as as result of the Second and Third Samnite Wars (326-304 BC and 298-290 BC). She started to expand beyond Italy as a result of the Second Punic War (218-201 BC)
Perhaps you are referring to the Hittites, who ruled the part of the world where Turkey is today. The Hittites battled the Egyptians and the Assyrians, but many sources say it was some Indo-European armies, including the Bryges and the Phrygians, who attacked and defeated them. By around 1200, the Hittite empire was gone.
