Islam religion spread in the Philippines just through Muslims who were traveling back and forth for trade. Those Muslims were well representing the true Islam and the true Muslim morals and characters. They were not directly inviting people to Islam but their good characters and morals and good deeds attracted people to follow their example and convert to Islam.
Islam was brought over to the Malay Archipelago, by Arab traders. First, it spread from Indonesia and followed its way up north into Malaysia, Brunei and the Philippines. Although Philippines is no longer a majority Muslim country like its southern neighbors, but the remnants of Islamic influence do remain in much of the Philippine islands. Except, it was been twisted a little to fit Filipino culture, since Catholics comprise of 90% of the Philippine population, ingredients such as pork and alcohol are added. Two of which are "haraam" (forebidden) by Muslims. The southern Philippines used to be owned by the ancient Sultanates of Brunei. Ancient Filipinos were Buddhists, Hindus and Animists. Until monotheism reached the Philippines, first Islam followed by Christianity. A small minority Muslim population still exists in the Philippines, located in Mindanao and the Sulu Archipelago southwest of Mindanao and northeast of Malaysia. They are called "Moros", a Spanish word for "Moore", the Muslims that had once ruled Spain.
[The] people in the Philippines gained from Islam a high sense of religious community, new laws, a more develop political organization, a new system of writing, and, above all, a new ethical outlook in life. Having adopted values that transcended their race and particular culture, they begun to consider themselves as an historical people, yet assuming all the time that their history was not the result of their own making or efforts. Without their consciousness as well as all the benefits that Islam brought to the peoples of Sulu and Mindanao, they would have easily been swept away by Western colonialism and relegated to the limbo of conquered peoples.

The same way as any outside religions come to an region. First contacts were usually from traders and explorers. Then, there can be slow introduction via missionaries, and trading, or force conversion by conquering. Islam and Christianity were not native religions to the Philippines. Christianity (mostly Catholic in the case of the Philippines) were brought by the conquering Spaniard. Islam was brought over by traders and merchants.
The Amazigh who invaded Spain under the leadership of Tariq ibn Ziyad brought Islam to Spain in 711 CE.
(Many people incorrectly refer to the Amazigh as the Moors or Berbers. Moor is considered insensitive by the Amazigh people - like Negro for a Black person. Berber is just considered incorrect - like Eskimo is for an Inuit person.)
