Noah
ANOTHER ANSWER:
The first accepted "sacrifice to the LORD" that we read of in The Bible is when the LORD "accepts shepherd Abel's blood offering" over his farmer brother's "grain offering." [see Gen.4]
So, Abel is the first person "of Faith" whom the Bible records as using an altar for the shedding of blood and the sacrifice:
"...Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sins." (Heb.9:22 NLT New Living Translation)
"It was by Faith that Abel brought a more acceptable offering than Cain did. God accepted Abel's offering TO SHOW that he was a Righteous man. And although Abel is dead, he still speaks to us because of his Faith." (Heb.11:4 NLT)
It's Faith that the Messiah magnified when He came in the flesh... not altars or the blood of animals:
"That is why Christ, when He came into the world, said, 'You did not want animal sacrifices and grain offerings. But you have given Me a Body so that I might Obey you. No, you were not pleased with animals burned on the altar or with other offerings for sin.
"Then I said, 'Look, I have come to do your Will, O God - just as it is written about Me in the Scriptures.' Christ said, 'You did not want animal sacrifices or grain offerings or animals burned on the altar or other offerings for sin, nor were you pleased with them' (though they are required by the law of Moses).
"Then He added, 'Look, I have come to do your will.' He cancels the first covenant in order to establish the Second. And what God wants is for us to be made Holy by the sacrifice of the Body of Jesus Christ once for all time.
"Under the old covenant, the priest stands before the altar day after day, offering sacrifices that can NEVER TAKE AWAY SINS. But our High Priest offered Himself to God as One Sacrifice for sins, GOOD FOR ALL TIME. Then He sat down at the place of Highest Honor at God's Right Hand." (Heb.10:5-12 NLT)
Jesus Christ is the "LORD" [the WORD of God] to whom Abel offered his sacrifices [see John 1:1-3]. And it was Abel's altar upon which the LORD first accepted sacrifices that pointed to Him.

He built a altar.
The Bible doesn't say he built an altar. Genesis 4:4 says "Abel, on his part also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of their fat portions And the LORD had regard for Abel and for his offering." It is likely that he built an altar for his offering, but the Scripture doesn't specifically say so.

Noah[Genesis 8:20] "Then Noah built an altar to the LORD".AnswerGenesis 4:3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. The first person to build an altar unto the LORD was Abram. "And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there built he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him. Gen 12:7The first recorded was Noah (Genesis 8:20). Others MAY have, but there's no record of it.The first specific mention of an altar being built in the Bible is indeed Genesis 8:20; its builder was Noah.
A:In Genesis 12:8, Abram had pitched his tent to the east of Bethel and built an altar. Later, in verse 13:3, he returned to Bethel and to the sacred altar. So it was Bethel where he built an altar. In chapter 28, Abraham's grandson Jacob slept in a certain place and dreamed of a ladder going up to heaven then he named that place Bethel, but before then it had been called Luz. On this story, as there was nowhere called Bethel at the time of Abram, he must have built his altar at Luz. The explanation is that the story of Abram was written at a time when there had long been a place called Bethel and the redactor of Genesis overlooked this minor discrepancy.
