After a fire that ravaged much of the Parliament house architect Charles Barry was awarded the duty to rebuild. Rebuilding did not start until 1840 and took approximately 30 years. Mr. Barry also had help from Augustus Pugin who was a leading authority in Gothic style and who actually became the lead on the project after Mr. Barry died. Pugin had most of his influence on the decoration and furnishings of the Parliament building.
