Theories are not "discovered"; they are developed. "Science" is a process; we gather data by looking around, or doing experiments, or studying things. We try to figure out how they work. When we have gathered enough information to come up with an idea of how things happen, we develop a theory; an explanation that takes all of the evidence into account, and which can be used to make predictions. Based on our theory, we design experiments to see if the predictions that our theory suggests actually work.

We then follow the same path again; more observations, more theory, more experimenting. Eventually, we will gather enough information to say that our theory appears to be true, or to demonstrate that it is false.

The "Big Bang Theory" is going through that process right now. We have some information, especially the isotropic microwave radiation discovered by Penzias & Wilson (for which they won the Nobel Prize) and Edwin Hubble's idea about the expansion of the universe. Astronomers keep looking for more information, and designing new experiments. In many cases, NASA builds the experiments into spacecraft and launches them into orbit; we then gather even MORE information, which is then used to further refine and develop our theories.

At EVERY step of the way, a real scientist is ready to discard his theory if the evidence points in another direction.

big bang theory was stated by Edwin Hubble (1889-1953).It states that the universe originated from a huge collision between two particles of concentrated mass. The after effect of that collision has resulted in the formation of the universe. The stars and the galaxies were formed from the explosion .It also states that the universe is also expanding and ths is getting colder and colder.

Almost every statement in the previous paragraph is just plain wrong.

Edwin Hubble did not develop the theoretical structure of the Big Bang, that was done by Jesuit Georges LeMaitre. Hubble confirmed that the distance between us and all other galaxies is expanding, and that the rate of this expansion depends on the distance to that galaxy. Thus, Hubble only confirmed one prediction of BB Cosmology, but had nothing to do with its theoretical development.

We have no idea what happened BEFORE the start of expansion, but it is almost certainly was NOT "a huge collision between two particles of concentrated mass." What happened afterwards was NOT an explosion of concentrated matter into empty space, but an expansion of space itself.

The Big Bang theory has been in existence since around the 1920s, when it was first mooted as a possibility by a Belgian scholar by the name of Georges Lemaitre. This was an early showing of the idea though, and it did not become a mainstream theory until Arno Penziaz and Robert Wilson accidentally picked up some background radiation signatures from the Big Bang itself in the Horn antenna at Bell Laboratories in New Jersey, USA in the mid 1960's, however, the term Big Bang itself was coined by a British scientist, Fred Hoyle, who meant it in a moking way, trying to belittle the theory in 1952, but the name stuck, and the rest is history. The basis of the theory we know it to day can trace its basis probably back to Alan Guth, who came up with the inflation theory in MIT back in 1979.

Roughtly the story is, Father LeMaitre first suggested the Big Bang . Friedman, Einstein's mathematician suggested to Einstein that his Gravitational equations were only solvable for expansion or contraction, not equilibrium.

Einstein desired equilibrium and feared Gravity would cause contraction and went with his Cosmological Constant to avoid contraction. The Cosmological Constant was an anti-gravity constant to create a cenrtifugal fiorce to balance gravity;s centripetal force.

Then Hubble's Redshift measures led Physicists to favor the Expansion Expansion thus favoring the Big Bang today.

Hubble did niot favor the Big Bang , he thought the Redshift was an hitherto unknown principle of Nature.

The Red Shift is still being misinterpreted by Physicists. It is still and Unknown Principle of Physics. The redshift is the measure of equilibrium in the Universe. The Redshift is the counter to the Gravitational contraction Einstein feared. It is not a Cosmological "Constant". The gravitational force is centripetal (Inward Force) and the redshift is an indicator of the Centrifugal Force (Outward force). Thus these two forces can balance the Universe in stable Equilibrium as it is and no gravitational collapse or expansion. No Dark Energy needs to be invoked.

Mathematically the Redshift centrifugal force is m(cv/r)cos Beta. Beta is the Redshift Angle. The Redshift = cos(beta) = v/c from Centripetal force mv^2/r = being equal to the Centrifugal force mcv/r cos(beta), being in equilibrium or The Continuity Equation of Gravity!

Jesuit priest Georges LeMaitre was the first scientist to show that an expanding Universe with a specific begining date was consistent with general relativity.

Einstein initially ridiculed LeMaitre by saying, "Your math is correct, but your physics is abominable." Einstein later admitted that his rejection of LeMaitre was his biggest blunder (he credited several things as 'his biggest blunder').

Sir Fred Hoyle coined the term "Big Bang Theory," although Sir Fred did not fully support the idea.

George Lemaitre in 1927.

But it didn't get called "big bang" until 1949 when F.Hoyle was trying to make fun of it. (he believed in an infinite universe, and so bottomless pits).

Did Stephen hawking come up with the big bang theory?

Jesuit priest George LeMaitre developed the math for the Big Bang (although the name came later) in 1927, long before Stephen Hawking was born.

What was the condition before the Big Bang?

The earth only came into being about 9 billion years after the big bang.At the time of the big bang, not even the atoms that make up the earth existed as atoms. And, since the big bang brought the universe into exsistence, the question of what anything was like before the big bang is impossible to answer.(Ain't cosmology fun?)

What does the big bang theory propose?

The Big Bang (possibly a misnomer; there was no sound according to some theorists) is one way to make sense out of the current observation that the galaxies are moving away from one another. Briefly, if the galaxies are moving away from one another, there must have (theoretically) been a time when they were all bunched up together. The theory also describes how various particles and then atoms came into existence, followed up by the creation of heavier and heavier elements in the various generations and explosions of stars the big bang theory was found by george gamow

How did the big bang start expanding?

The Big Bang is a theory of what happened at the beginning of the universe. Astronomy and physics have shown that the universe did actually have a beginning, but we're not exactly sure of the origins of the Big Bang. There is a fortune and a Nobel Prize waiting for the first person to answer this question to everyones satisfaction. the-pokedex:well this came to me one day but it is correct that the sun was getting to much energy so it blow up then the paticals of water came to the lava making rock and then the little rocks came to the main rock or the biggest making planets PS i am only 9

Did the big bang blow up the earth?

No, it didn't. At the moment of the 'big bang', which was really an expansion and not a noisy explosion, there was absolutely nothing except the massless energy that brought the big bang about. The earth didn't exist until billions of years after the big bang.
