The architect who designed and built the bank building in Toyah, Texas was Robert G. Kirsch (R. G. Kirsch). While studying at U.T. my design professor focused on the courthouses of Texas, as well as bank buildings, and Apparently Kirsch was based out of St. Louis, Missouri but traveled throughout Texas in the late 1800's and early 1900's taking on jobs in small, rural communities. According to my professor Kirsch built the courthouse in Canyon, Texas as well as a bank and it was during this time period he was also in Reeves County constructing the bank building. While not always the main architect on different projects, he consulted and assisted on many other edifices around the North Texas area, so he might have been involved with other buildings in the Toyah and Pecos area. From what I can remember, he also is the architect of other historical buildings in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area. I know he has built other buildings in Texas but I cannot remember where else. Having grown up in Culberson County, I took a special interest in Kirsch's building designs when Reeves County was mentioned. I hope this information helps.
I spoke with a friend today who told me that the bank building had been destroyed by a tornado a few years back. I looked up R.G. Kirsch and found out that he was active in designing many buildings in Texas. The court house in Randall County is now on the National Historical Registry. I don't know if the hotel in Toyah that he built is still standing but it would be worth looking into. I haven't been there in over 20 years and hear that the town is almost a ghost town now.
If you are talking about the Ward County Bank, it was constructed in 1901 of sandstone that was from a local quarry. It was designed by Robert G. Kirsch who was active at this time in the area and was known for his romanesque revival style. R.G. Kirsch was the architect of several banks and courthouses in Canyon,Texas/Canadian, Texas as well as other states. Closer to home, he was the architect of the bank and a hotel in Toyah, Texas which were built around the same time period.
That is the correct spelling of the proper name Toyah (Toyah Wilcox and her band).

If you are referring to the Ward County Bank, it was built in 1901 from locally quarried sandstone by Robert G. Kirsch. R. G. Kirsch was known for his Romanesque revival style and he built several banks and courthouses in Texas, including a hotel and bank in close by Toyah, Texas during the same time period. It is unknown if he was involved with the building of the original Ward County Courthouse in Barstow before the county seat was moved to Monahans.
George Bruce designed and built the Toyah school in 1912. It was later converted into a gymnasium and served in that purpose until the school was forcibly closed when it was annexed into Pecos. A one story school building a block or so to the southwest was the "modern" school. It was closed in 1974 after a lengthy court battle that reached the Supreme Court was lost by the community. George Bruce is buried in the newer Toyah cemetery NW of town. He is my great great grandfather. He was also a noted builder of several large buildings in the Trans-Pecos area. Some in Barstow, TX, Carlsbad, NM, & elsewhere.
