Leaving out the pedal steel guitar (where the multiple neck concept is standard) the earliest double neck I am aware of was one Semie Moseley built for Joe Maphis around 1953 or 54. It's possible there were some even earlier than that, of course.

∙ 11y agoA larger range in sound. Songs like Lay it on the Line by Triumph or Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin use them to achieve a larger range of notes for a unique sound. One neck has 12 strings and one has 6.
