The Jamaican Flag was designed in 1962 by the Reverend William McGhie from an idea by Sir Alexander Bustamante (first Prime Minister of Jamaica). Originally a green, black and gold tricolour, Reverend McGhie incorporated the Scottish Cross of St. Andrew as a way of combining Jamaica's African and Christian roots. The Flag was first hoisted on 2 August 1962, the day Jamaica became an independent nation.
This is because Jamaica is a British colony.
The flag of Jamaica has 2 lines of symmetry.
Jamaica's flag was adopted on August 6, 1962, which is the country's Independence Day.
