It is not known who originally developed the open-range system of raising livestock. However, it has been around for much longer than Mexico has been around, probably ever since cattle where made into livestock. Much of the people thousands of years ago during or even before Biblical times where nomads, and this is most likely when open-ranging livestock have started. It was not to mimic the wild herbivores that moved around every year, but rather because it was a necessity since grasses were "always greener on the other side." Ancient tribes in Africa still use this system to graze their cattle.
This sort of system was brought over by the Spaniards when they conquered and created Mexico. Europeans who began cattle ranching adopted this practice from the Mexicans. But the Mexicans were not the ones who started this practice.
The open range system was developed by the Ancient Egyptians or even those before these people. There was open-range livestock management practiced in biblical times, long before the Mexicans are thought to develop the system or even before the Spanish conquistadors came to the New World and tried to develop a colony for their people. Fences were not used for nomadic herders in the Middle East, so livestock were let to graze over a certain area by shepherds before being moved to a different area.

It will depend in part on what kind of livestock you are raising. You will need at least an open shed to protect your livestock during harsh weather although some people do use barns. You will need corrals or pens depending on the type of livestock, chutes and fencing. You will need feed and water troughs. You will need storage sheds, barns or bins to store your food and equipment such as buckets, pitchforks, shovels and possibly even bottles for feeding and distributing the food. You will need equipment for grooming such as brushes. Many people who raise livestock also find a need for farm implements such as tractors.
"Rancho" means "ranch" in Spanish. Indeed that's where our word "ranch" comes from. A ranch is a large open farm for raising livestock, particularly cattle and horses.
It is also an open source operating system developed by Novell Inc.
Montana is known for its extensive livestock industry, primarily focused on cattle and sheep. The state ranks among the top producers of beef in the United States, with ranching being a significant part of its agricultural economy. In addition to cattle and sheep, Montana also raises pigs, poultry, and goats, with various farms and ranches contributing to a diverse livestock sector. The vast landscapes and open pastures provide ideal conditions for raising livestock in the state.

Ranching takes place primarily for the purpose of raising livestock such as cows, sheep, and goats for meat, dairy, and other animal products. Ranching also provides economic opportunities for individuals and communities involved in the livestock industry. Additionally, ranching may be a way to sustain traditional agricultural practices and preserve open spaces in certain regions.
