The first chocolate maker in Europe was Cadbury. They were boxing chocolate candies in 1868. Chocolate had never been heard of in Spain until Christopher Columbus brought back cocoa beans to Spain. Spanish friars made the chocolate into a frothy drink that quickly became popular.

It was created by the Mayans and Aztecs. it was an expensive liquid, only to be purchased by the very rich citizens and leaders in the society. To make the drink, the bean,when ready is finely grounded into powder, and then water is added, and sometimes other ingredients. When the European settlers came, the obtained the recipe, after tasting how delicious it was. Wen the bean and recipe were brought back to Europe, a vital ingredient in the evolution of chocolate was added:sugar. Then, in about the 3rd quarter of the 1600's, the first chocolate shoppe (with very modern-like chocolate) was opened in London, England. So in the end, the first modern-like chocolate was created around the 1600's, or before. But the first, rudimentary form of chocolate was back in Aztec/Mayan reign era.
