he didnt go to Normandy William came to England and Harold was on his way back from fighting the Vikings at Stamford bridge and then William beat Harold at hastings
Harold got chosen to be King but William from Normandy wasnt Happy about it so they fought and William won and Harold died from having and arrow shot into his eye.
He did.
william fought with harold because harold had to go to londonn road when harold was in the way
As England is north of Normandy, William sailed north.
He fought William the Conqueror in the battle of Hastings but in York he fought Harold Hardrada. Your question is not kinda right so I'll explain more detailed: In York Harold fought Harold Hardrada another man who wanted to be King so then Harold Godwinson won the battle Straight after that he marched all the way to Hastings to fight against William the Conqueror So in other words Battle of Hastings was in Hastings and the York battle was against Harold Hardrada. Hope that helps xx
He promised William of Normandy that He would help him become King. When Harold Godwinson was elected King. William ran back to Normandy telling everyone to go and KILL HAROLD...!! There you go..I hope that helped..(: xx

It was all because of the succession issue of 1066: Harold Godwinsson succeeded Edward on account Edward offered the throne to Harold on his death bed. William duke of Normandy thought he was the rightful claimant to the throne, as, through probably bias Norman sources, Harold promised the throne to William. This is why when news of Harold's coronation by Archbishop Stigand arose, William planned to invade.

he didnt William and harald Hadraada invaded New answer: According to the interpretation of the Tapestry of Bayeux, Harald was was sent by Edward, King of England, to go to Normandy, presumably to tell William, Duke of Normandy, that England would be his i.e. William's. Harald shipwrecked during his crossing of the channel and William had to rescue him from a rival. William then asked Harald to swear an oath that William would become King at the death of Edward. Harald was then repatriated to his homeland, but reneged on his oath when Edward died. Harald claimed himself King infuriating William. William then took what he believed was rightfully his by invading England. Near Hastings in 1066, Williams Norma ns defeated Haralds Anglo-Saxons. Harald died after being hit with an arrow in his eye. Thus England fell under Norman control and the course of history was changed.
He had to kill another guy called Harald from Norway, who also had claims to the throne, at the battle of Stamford Bridge so his men were really tired to go to battle with William of Normandy, later called William the conqueror
The Battle started when Edward the Confessor died and had noone to pass the throne onto, immediatly everyone jumped to the chance to become king The three contenders were : Harold Godwinson - An Englishman Harald Hardrada- A Viking and William of Normandy- duke of Normandy Edward the Confessor had promised William the throne however everyone in England wanted Harold G but the throne was rightfully Haralds because of his ancestors. -----------------------------------------------------------EDIT!-----------------------------------------------------the first part of the previous answer is true. However, the Witan chose Harold Godwineson to be the king. The other two contenders were certainly not happy about this, so William and the Normans were determined to fight with King Harold for the throne. King Harold's army had just successfully fought in a battle in York, and had to walk 300miles to get to the place near Hastings where William wated to fight. As you can imagine, they must have been exhausted. However, the king's army had the advantage. They were stood upon a hill with a forest behind them, so they were protected from all sides. At first it seemed likely that they would win ... (you asked for the start, so I won't go on.) Hope I helped!
William and his army tricked Harold. they pretended to retreat and when Harold and his army followed they attacked.. they also charged between the gaps of the 'tortoise'. this is a tactic that they used.
