But Jesus answered him specifically: not when, but "today." In keeping with good Greek, Jesus stressed this response by placing "today" first in the sentence (e.g., the adverb is in the emphatic position.) The addition of the comma after "truth" brings this out to English readers. In a word, there is no pressing grammatical reason to insert the comma at a different place.
