What effect did the rule of Louis XIV have on his second successor Louis XVI?

AnswerLouis XV was the King of France and had Louis XVI (his grandson) as his successor. Louis XVI was only 19 years of age when he became King of France (his grandfather Louis XV had died of smallpox). Louis XVI, unlike his two younger brothers, never wanted to become King of France. He was very decisive less and shy, wanted nothing but the best for his French people, but did not know how to reign his country best. Therefore, during Louis XIV's and Louis XV's reign, a horrible debt in the countries finances was created (400 million livres!), which was the legacy to Louis XVI. The latter never could set that straight again and was eventually guillotined for it.Louis XIV was the Sun King, le Roi Soleil. His reign was studded with success and glamour. It was he who built Versailles, a palace unrivalled before or since. He made France the dominant European power, but in doing so, as stated above, he bankrupted the state. When Louis XVI came to the throne he inherited not the glamour, but the debt, and could not successfully run his country. However, the reign of the Sun King (so-called to associate with Apollo - the Sun was the King's emblem) was not solely responsible for the failure and execution of Louis XVI

What did King Louis XVI do that was offensive to France?

King Louis XVI was a man of good intentions, just not quite cut out to be king. He declared himself the absolute ruler of France, while not quite understanding how to run it efficiently. While the economy failed and people went starving, he sat idly by. You may have heard of his wife's famous saying, "Let them eat cake." The story behind that goes something like, as the French people were starving and without bread to eat, a man asked Mary Antoinette (Louis's wife) what was to be done about it. She replied, simply, "Let them eat cake." Louis's ideas weren't far from it. He was eventually executed, due to his ruling being entirely counterproductive.

When King Louis XVI tried to run away who found out it was him?

This happened op June 20/21, 1791. Varennes is a very significant episode during the French revolution. King Louis XVI, his wife and children and some servants fled the Tuillerie palace in which they had been put on "house-arrest" after their removal from their palace at Versailles. Louis XVI eventually decided to flee after Marie Antoinette had been seriously threatened to be murdered and it became obvious that the Revolutionists and the monarchs were not warming up to the idea of constitutional reigning of France (reigned by the Assemble Nationale and Louis XVI together). Marie Antoinette was the one that begged her husband to flee with the family, he eventually caved to the idea. They attempted to flee to Montmédy, Count von Fersen (who was a very close personal friend of Marie Antoinette) made the plan together with the Braon de Bretuil. With a carriage they fled in the middle of the night. They were to meet royal troups in Montmédy who would assist them organize counter revolutionary actions and to restore the monarchy. Because the berline in which they traveled was so heavily packed it crept towards Montmédy and the trip took too long. When they arrived in the little town Varennes, all of France already knew the royal family had escaped Paris en everybody was on the look out. La Fayette even ordered an arrest warrant. A postmaster called Drouet recognized the king's face while in Varennes (in spite of his disguise) from a 50 livres banknote. La Fayette rushed over and handed the King his arrest warrant and they were escorted back to Paris.

Where did king Louis XVI try to run away to?

He knew that if he wouldn't, the monarchy would die for sure and he and his wife, Queen Marie Antoinette, would be dethroned. He wanted to try to get across the border in order to rescue the monarchy from dying so the throne would be saved. He also knew that if he wouldn't succeed, the monarchy would be slaughtered after all. He decided to take the risk after Marie Antoinette had begged him to do so.
