The Germans in France. They declared war in 1917 after much urging from Britain, and after Germany had accidentally sunk the American cruise-liner Lusitania in 1915 with loss of American lives. The Americans had actually been supplying both sides of the war for the years prior.
The first troops did not land in France until 1918. They eventually fought at places such as Chateau-Thierry and Belleau Wood, the latter becoming synonymous with terror and tension. They gave the tired British the legs to keep the Germans from taking Paris.
