Researchers in the 16th century itself has predicted the existence of the North Pole. Several explorers tried to reach the North Pole in the 18th century. In 1827, a British naval officer named William Edward Parry tried, but was forced to turn back.Later in 1871, an expedition led by American Charles Hall had also failed. In 1895 Norwegian explorers Fridtjof Nansen and Fredrik Hjalmar Johansen got to 86 degrees 14' North prior to being forced back. The Italian whaler Stella Polare got to 86 degrees and 34'. In the first part of 19th century a man by name Frederick Cook who was an American declared that he reached the pole on April 21, 1908. But his expedition was not recognized due to lack of sufficient evidence. Later an American naval engineer Robert Peary claimed he reached the North Pole on April 6, 1909. His expedition is still under dispute. One of the objections was that none of Peary's men were trained for navigation. His expedition is also said to be 3 times faster than any other expeditions to the pole.
Christopher Columbus discovered that the Scandinavian vikings had discovered America first because they were on there way to find the poles. (north pole and south pole)
Arktiki = The north pole sea. Anti = means "opposite" in greek. Ant-arktiki = the area that is opposite of the north pole = The south pole.

Maxime Edgard Chaya was the first Arab to reach the North Pole on April 25, 2009. He has also reached the South pole and the summit of Mount Everest, and also the Seven Summits.Elham Al Qasimi became the first Arab woman to reach the North pole on April 23, 2010.
According to the history books, it was the North Pole in 1909, with the South Pole following 2 years later. But, seeing the considerable doubt that has been uncovered about Peary's claim to the North Pole, there may have to be a revision.

Robert E. Peary was credited with finding the North Pole first in 1909, but in 1908 the New York Herald came out with a headline "The North Pole is Discovered by Fredrick A. Cook." So Cook found the North Pole a whole year before Peary.
No one that we know of. There were famous first expeditions to the North Pole OR the South Pole, and famous first trips around the world. But no-one ever had the idea that anything of interest could be discovered by travelling from the North Pole to the South Pole
