The Germans were fought and defeated collectively in WW 2 by a group of nations called the Allied forces. This comprised on USA, Great Britain and USSR (presently Russia). But more importantly you can say that the weather gods played a big role in their defeat. The Germans were more or less successful in capturing entire of Western Europe and hadseverely wounded Great Britain. They had a mutual agreement with USSR that either would not attack the other. BUT that was just a delusion and Hitler always had his eyes on the vast Russian territory in Central Europe and Asia. He eventually attacked USSR, breaking the treaty (largely due to his overconfidence stemming from the splendid victories in Europe) and planned to win Moscow before the winter falls. But here his plans failed, the German army's advance was not quick enough and the severely harsh Russian winter came up before the Germans could capture Moscow. Huge huge numbers in German army faced death to epidemic deseases and extreme sub zero temperatures on the vast Russian plains. On the other front USA which was not in war for a long time had to jump in after Japan (Germany's ally in WW2) performed a brutal attack on US ships in Pearl Harbour. These three nations then formed a cartel and defeated Germany. The Japanese were still fighting. USA then dropped 2 atomic bombs one after the other at Nagasaki and Hiroshima to bring Japan to its knees.
