The Daughters of charity were founded in 1633 by St. Louise de Marillac and St. Vincent de Paul. Although frequently mis-identified, Mother Teresa of Calcutta founded a community called the Missionaries of Charity, which is much more recent.

∙ 12y agoThe original order of the charism of the "Sisters of Charity" actually called the Daughters of Charity was formed in France by Vincent de Paul and Louise de Marrillac in 1633. The first order of true American Sisters of Charity was formed by Elizabeth Seton in Emmitsburg in 1809 and since that time other orders have sprung up. They both have a wonderful ministry and charism to carry out their ministry with God's Love. I've been fortunate to have come to work with both wonderful orders in ministering to the sick.
