Later after Judas betrays Jesus he feels sorry and commits suicide:

4: Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.
5: And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.

∙ 14y agoIn Matthew 27:3 it states: When Judas who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the 30 silver coins to the chief priests and the elders. "I have sinned" he said, "for I have betrayed innocent blood." Judas threw the money int the temple and left. Then he went to hang himself. The chief priest picked up the coins and said " it is against the law to to put this into treasury since it is blood money" So they decided to use the money buy the potters field as a burial placer for foreigners. That is why it is called the Field of Blood to this day.

∙ 8y agoThe authors of the New Testament gospels often found inspiration in the Old Testament. Zechariah 11:12 says, "And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver."
Matthew chapter 27 expands the Zechariah chapter 11 reference to casting the thirty pieces of silver unto a potter, along with parallel references in Jeremiah to purchase of the potter's field, and has Judah cast down the thirty pieces of silver in the Temple and then the priests bought the potter's field.
The thirty pieces of silver were a fulfilment of the prophetic words in Zechariah.

∙ 14y agoThe Jewish Leaders gave Judas the 30 silver coins for Jesus. The reason they did it is because they hated Jesus so much, they would do anything to get rid of him. Since Judas agreed to take the coins, they wanted to arrest Jesus . It was a part of the deal between Judas and the Jewish Leaders. He got Jesus arrested so he could keep the silver.
However, afterwards Judas was full of remorse. He gave the silver back (which was equivalent to a month's wages for an unskilled labourer) and committed suicide.

∙ 9y agoThis depends on which account one is to believe. According to the Gospel of Matthew, Judas, overcome with remorse, returned the coins to the priests that had given them to him, and then he hanged himself. The priests, in turn, does not want the money, regarding it as blood money(conveniently forgetting that THEY paid the blood money), and so uses it to buy the Potter's field. (Matthew 27)
However, according to Acts of Apostles, Judas buys the field himself, goes there, and there he 'fell headlong, his body burst open and his intestines spilled out'. (Acts 1) However, no actual sum is mentioned in Acts, merely that he used his payment, however much it was.
Either way, the money ultimately goes to buying the Potter's field, but in differing ways.

Was Judas Satan?
Judas Iscariot was one of the 12 disciples, not an angel. He was the one who took 20 pieces of silver to betray Jesus Christ. Afterward, he was so distraught and ashamed about what he did that he hung himself. Christians try to use Judas' suicide as proper evidence for Hell. But it is just as possible, and I would think spiritually logical, that Jesus would have forgiven Judas and that the whole concept of hell is misconstrued.
