I don't know who made mine but common names here are the first name of the father and added -son. So Andersson, Johnsson etc. It differs a bit between countries. Others made them up based on the place they live in or something they like. Names that have a von or van (from/of in German) in them have a name first and then von/van and then a place to make sure people know which particular family and from what area they come from.
