Phillis Wheatley was inspired by a pen when she saw someone writing with it. Then her parents inspired her to start learning and to stop doing chores. She soon became known for her amazing poetry and was inspired by people who enjoyed her work. Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and the king were expecting to meet her!

Probably her owners, the people she worked for. Mary Wheatley, (daughter of Susanna and John Wheatley), had taught her to read and write. But, all of them had taught her Latin, Christianity, ancient history and mythology. She had wrote poetry as early as 1765. Also George Washington, the leader of the Patriots at the time, was the subject of one of her more famous poems. Hope this helped!:)
