There was a president called Theodore Roosevelt AKA 'Teddy'. The name originated from an incident on a bear hunting trip that Roosevelt was invited to. Some men told Roosevelt to shoot an American black bear, but he refused and ordered someone else to do it. A cartoon was made about it and that made the bear look small and cute. Moris Michtom saw this aand decided to make a toy.
