Alfred G berner was a massapequa school board member who helped develop all schools needed to satisfy returning vets from world war two. During the Korean War with steel at a premium he was able to build

using laminated redwood instead of steel. His last school built was the Massapeua High School opening in 1956. His health deterioated from emphesema causing his death also in 1956. A lung removal was tried but his heart could not take the strain. The school board named there new high school built in 1962 after him for his great public service.
