the founder of Buddhism was an Indian prince named siddhartha gautama. he saw four sights in India that influence him to leave the palace: a sick man, a dead man, an old man, and a monk, or holy man. the first three sights were very sad. the monk made him think of happiness. he left the palace and meditated under a bodhi tree. he reached enlightenment after 49 days of meditating. then he became the Buddha.
