Matthew 27:56 with Mark 15:40 suggest that Salome was the mother of the Apostles James & John, also known as the sons of Zebedee.
Salome is a name of a woman in Mark 15:40 along with others of which Mary is one. It is not one name for one person.
We think she was.
Mary Magdalene, Mary (mother of James), and Mary Salome visited the empty tomb. In Matthew 27:61 it is written "Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting there opposite the tomb." The other Mary here is named in Mark 16:1 and Matthew 27:56 as the mother of James and Joseph. If you use the Mark 16:1 account then the third women is Salome who is called Mary Salome in the Catholic Encyclopedia and probably identical with the mother of the sons of Zebedee (James and John) in Matthew 27:56.
An angel at the tomb told the disciples that Jesus was not there, as he had risen from the dead.
When the name Mary is found in the Bible it can sometimes be confusing especially because there are several women of that name often in the same passages. Take Mat 27:61 for example, "Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting there opposite the tomb."In a few verses earlier in Matthew 27:56 "Mary the mother of James and Joseph" is given so the other Mary in verse 61 is the mother of James and Joseph.According to Mark 16:1 Salome was another woman that visited the tomb with both Marys and to make matters more interesting Salome is called St. Mary Salome in the Catholic Encyclopedia.
In the Bible, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joses, Joanna, and Susanna are sometimes referred to as female disciples or followers of Jesus, but they are not explicitly called apostles. There is no clear evidence of female apostles in the traditional sense of the twelve disciples chosen by Jesus.
In Mark 15:40-41, it is said that many women were present at the crucifixion of Jesus, including Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and Salome. These women had followed and ministered to Jesus during his ministry and were now witnessing his final moments on the cross. Mark highlights their presence to emphasize their dedication and loyalty to Jesus even in his darkest hour.
Salome is only mentioned twice in the Bible, both times in Mark's Gospel, after the crucifixion of Jesus. Her name is the feminine form of "shalom", which means complete, whole, content, safe, healthy, prosperous, and peace......Mark 15:40 (NKJV) There were also women looking on from afar, among whom were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the Less and of Joses, and Salome,Mark 16:1 (NKJV) Now when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, that they might come and anoint Him.Extension of above answer:Don't, however, be confused by the person named Salome above. This is not the 'Salome' the step-daughter of Herod who danced the Dance of the Seven Veils for Herod asking for the head of John the Baptist as a reward. Although traditionally the daughter is called Salome, nowhere in the Bible is Herod's stepdaughter named, nor does it say that she performed the 7-veil dance or even an early form of striptease for him. This is a modern invention made popular by Oscar Wilde's play and Strauss' opera. It merely states that Herod's stepdaughter danced for him, asking for the head of John the Baptist as a reward, with which Herod, after rashly promiing her anything, had to comply. The Salome mentioned in the Bible is in all probability a relative of Mary the mother of Jesus
