HISTORY: For as long as she can remember, Sharon Sanchez has always had a passion for music. "My mom and her family are all musicians," Sharon comments, "It seems like music is in my bloodits in my genes." Sharon is no stranger to the stage, and those who have seen her perform can easily tell that she enjoys being up there. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Sharon began singing at the age of three. "She used to sing in the shower," admits her mother, "The first song she sang was a Filipino song." Both her mother and father supported Sharons musical dream by introducing her to several local talent competitions and showcases. Sharon had her first public appearance at the age of eight in a local talent contest. With each of her public appearances, Sharon developed her vocal abilities and gained the sense of a true entertainer. At the age of nine, Sharon caught the attention of a well-known local Filipino songwriter and entertainer. She offered Sharon a chance to record songs in Ilocano, all of which later were hits within the Filipino community in Hawaii. Being at a very young age of merely nine years old, Sharon was given the opportunity to be accustomed to experiencing the crucial work essential in a recording studio. When Sharon was a freshman in high school, she entered a statewide talent competition. This competition, Brown Bags to Stardom, was an eminent contest, which picked one winner from each high school in the entire state and had the winners compete in the finals. Sharon entered the competition at her high school and was chosen the winner moving on to the finals. At the finals, Sharon placed 3rd out of about 40 competitors. Impressing a couple of producers who watched Sharons performance, they had asked her to record on the Brown Bags to Stardom compilation CD, which she recorded a song she had written and composed herself. The same producers later asked Sharon to record on another compilation. Soon after the two compilation CDs, Sharon recorded her solo debut album, entitled My Dream World, when she was only a sophomore in high school. With the release of her album came performance after performance. After a year of promoting her album, Sharon flew to Los Angeles, California, and performed on MTVs The Cut. Sharon later had the opportunity to fly to New York and meet with several major recording companies. While in the east coast, she was fortunate to record a song with Dave Hummel, whose work include Monifah's hit song "Touch It"). About a year after that, Sharon flew all the way to Chicago and performed on the Jenny Jones Show. Sharon has been described as a polished entertainer with a promising future. "I was born to sing, to be on stage," says Sharon smiling and adds, "I dont see myself doing anything else." Sharon's passion for music is evident to anyone has seen her onstage. Rendering songs that can move the younger generation as well as the older generation, Sharon can reach out to anyone she sings to.
