An army general is the highest ranking officer in the british army. His role is to manage and command the entire army. His work is purely "paper" based and does not take part in any front line combat. His role also involves advising his boss ( the prime minister ) in times of war or conflict. Generals fall into different types. 1 Star 2 Star 3 Star 4 Star As you said army general im guessing you were refering to the highest ranking general which is a 4 star.
