Sally Ride (b. May 26, 1951) She was on the crew of the Space Shuttle Challenger for the STS-7, which began on June 18, 1983. She was the third woman in space, after the cosmonauts Valentina Tereshkova in 1963, and Svetlana Savitskaya in 1982.
John Glenn, a decorated US Marine Corps pilot, flew the first US orbital mission, completing
three orbits of the Earth in his space capsule, "Friendship 7" , on February 20, 1962.
Glenn was later a Senator from Ohio (1974 to 1999) and flew aboard the Space Shuttle at
the age of 77, in 1998.
Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova was the first woman in space, however since the Soviets called their people in space cosmonauts then the first female astronaut was Sally Kristen Ride over 20 years after the first woman in space
The first ever female to travel to space was a Soviet by the name of Valentina Tereshkova. She flew aboard the Vostok 6 capsule on the 16th of June 1963 on a 48 orbit spaceflight of the Earth. It took 19 years before another female can travel to space, Svetlana Savitskaya.
The First female American to travel to space was Sally Ride aboard the space shuttle Challenger (STS-7) on the 18th of June 1983.
The first US citizen to orbit the Earth was John Glenn, making 3 orbits aboard "Friendship 7" on February 20, 1962. (The first US citizen to go into space on a rocket was Alan Shepard on May 5, 1961.)
First woman in orbit: Valentina Tereshkova was the first woman, but also the first ordinary person in space. She was a textile mill worker who enjoyed the hobby of parachute jumping when she was picked for a class of women to train for spaceflight. By age 25, Tereshkova was a cosmonaut. She spent 71 hours orbiting Earth 48 times in June 1963 in her capsule Sea Gull. She had made 126 parachute jumps, but her brief spaceflight training didn't prepare her for high-G re-entry. After landing, she was reported in "pitiful condition," but recovered quickly. Khrushchev boasted, "It is our girl who is first in space."

No, the moon is very real. The footsteps of Neil Armstrong, the first man to step foot on the moon, are on the moon.
Commander Neil Armstrong put his left foot down on the moon first. His right one was on the landing pad. It was then that he uttered the famous, "That's one small step..."
