The current system is quite unusual. The Conservatives won just over 300 seats, more seats than any other party, but failed to gain a majority (more than 320 of the seats). As a result, they formed a coalition with the 57 Liberal Democrat MPs, with Conservative leader David Cameron becoming the Prime Minister (Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg became the Deputy Prime Minister).
