Brahman is the main god of Hinduism. Brahman actually translated means true reality or the real thing. Brahman can take on many forms and each form has a role to play, like goddess of learning or recoverer of difficulties. All Hindus belive in Brahman, and sometimes split into groups believing strongly in one form.

Hindus have many Gods and Goddesses. Vishnu, Shiva, Rama, Krishna, Buddha, Ganesha, Kartikeya, Hanuman are some of the Hindu Gods. Saraswati, Lakshmi, Parvati, Durga are some of the Goddesses.

The main God of a person would be one whom he/she chooses for worship.

Apparently there are many gods [not Gods/God] but if you keep digging in Upanishads you discover that many gods are the manifestations of the trinity Brahmaa, Vishnu and Shiva, but this is not even final, these three are Creator, Maintainer and Destroyer of the Universe, but beyond that who exists is the "Brahmana" [not Brahmaa or Brahmanaa], Brahmana is the highest reality, a formless, genderless pure consciousness the definition of which is "sat-chit-ananda", pure, undifferentiated state of non-duality ... which one may consider as the God but this isn't the God of Christianity or Islam, because that God has a gender and who created the Universe but behold, let me explain as far as I understand it, according to Upanishads, this whole reality of the Universe that we see along with all the gods and even the trinity is like a dream an illusion of the "Brahmana" = I, yes me.. but not this material you and I but the pure consciousness behind this material body... as if "I" is an entity looking through billions of eyes i the Universe thinking that everyone and everything is different, many, you and I are different... but if one goes deep inside one's consciousness, he unfolds the layers of ignorance and starts to see the real nature of the Universe and ultimately in the end he becomes one with the Brahmana and realize that nothing actually existed or existed it was he all along dreaming and so he experienced the Universe... this is non-dualism.. this is the realization that "individual pure consciousness or Atmana = Universal consciousness Brahmana".

Well I can go on and on, and we can read and discuss and go on but it all add up to nothing if we fail to reach that level of consciousness !

Followers of different sects and paths worship their own personal God (Ishwara) and believe that their God is the supreme. They take references from shastras like vedas, upanishads, different gitas (like bhagavad Gita, Shiva Gita, Avadhoot Gita, etc) and different puranas like Bhagavat purana (srimad bhagavat), devi Bhagavat, skanda purana, vishnu purana, shiva purana, Ganesh purana, etc to claim the authority of their personal God. Some who worship formless God, attribute less God i.e. Brahman.

Advaita and Yogis and Siddhar tradition (Tamil siddhas): Nirguna brahman, Atman

Main source of studies: Bhagavad Gita, Brahmasutras, Upanishads. Gita with moola solkas and with Shri Adi Shankara bhasya, Srimad Bhagavat (which contains both glories of God with form and formless God (Brahman), Guru Gita, Ribhu Gita, Avadhoot Gita and many more.

Vaishnavas: Krishna, Rama and Narayana. But for many sects, Krishna is supreme.

Main source of studies and worship: Srimad Bhagavad, Ramayana, selects verses or paragraphs from Mahabharat, Vishnu Purana, Bhagavad Gita

Shaivas: Shiva both saguna and nirguna)

Bhagavad Gita (Shri Abhinav Gupta ji's commentary), shaiva shastras like Shiva Puranas, Shiva rahasya, Ribhu Gita and maybe Padma Purana. They also refer to Upanishads and vedas, Guru Gita, etc.

Shaktas: Adi Shakti, different forms of Goddesses: However, followers of Shri Datatraya bhagavan, who was an avadhoot and wrote Avadhoot Gita and Jivan Mukta Gita, think that Nirguna Brahman is supreme, however the path to reach depends upon worship of shakti and rise of kundalini.

Main source of study and worship: Devi Bhagavat, Bhagavad Gita, Tripura rahasya and upanishads from Yog POV (Point of View)

Kapalikas / Aghoris: Shiva / Nirguna aspect of Shiva

Ramayat Sampradaya of Swami Ramananada: Bhagavan Rama

Main source of study and worship: Similar to Vaishnav, but with more emphasis on Rama then Krishna, Ramayana.

SwamiNarayana Sampradaya: Bhagavan Swami Narayana, an avatar of Bhagavan Vishnu.

Main source of worship: Bhagavad Gita and general Hindu Shastras, Their own shastras (instructions) like vachanruta written by Swaminarayan Bhagavan

Ganapatyas: Ganesh is the main God of worship and often representing both God with form and formless God.

Adi Shankara charitramruta also talks about Yamvadis, who think Yama as the supreme God, who is not black coloured, but is pure white, beyond time and space.

There are other belief systems like sankhya and charvakas which may believe in demi gods, but not in one Supreme God.

Muktika Upanishad lists name of 108 upanishad, which are categorized into seven categories
