Robert Carlyle Byrd (born November 20, 1917) is the senior United States Senator from West Virginia, and a member and former Senate Leader of the Democratic Party. Byrd has been a Senator since January 3, 1959 and is the longest-serving member in the Senate's history. He is also the oldest current member of the United States Congress, and is the first politician in U.S. history to serve as a U.S. senator uninterrupted for half a century. Frank Raleigh Lautenberg (born January 23, 1924) is an American businessman and Democratic Party politician. Now the senior United States Senator from New Jersey, he is in his fifth non-consecutive term in office, first serving from 1982 to 2001, and again since 2003. He is the only current Senator to have returned to office after having left the Senate. Lautenberg is the second oldest member of the Senate, after Robert Byrd of West Virginia. Daniel Ken "Dan" Inouye (Japanese: 井上 建, Inoue Ken; born September 7, 1924) is an American politician who currently serves as the senior United States Senator from Hawaii. He has been a U.S. Senator since 1963 and, following the recent death of Ted Kennedy, is currently the second-most-senior member after fellow Democrat Robert Byrd. He has continuously represented Hawaii in the U.S. Congress since it achieved statehood in 1959, serving as Hawaii's first U.S. Representative and later a U.S. Senator. Inouye was the first Japanese-American to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives and later the first in the U.S. Senate. He is the third oldest U.S. Senator after Robert Byrd and Frank Lautenberg. He is also a recipient of the Medal of Honor. Daniel Kahikina Akaka (born September 11, 1924) is the junior U.S. Senator from Hawaii and a member of the Democratic Party. He is the first U.S. Senator of Native Hawaiian ancestry and is currently the only member of the Senate who has Chinese descent With the departure of Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska he became the fourth oldest member of the United States Senate after Robert Byrd, Frank Lautenberg, and Daniel Inouye.

Is the oldest senate the president of the senate?

No, the President Pro Tempore is generally the Senator in the majority with the most seniority. In some cases this is the oldest senator, but more likely it's the longest serving senator (although I do believe Senator Byrd is the oldest currently serving senator).Under the US Constitution, the Vice President of the United States is the President of the Senate. In modern times, the Vice President does not actually preside over the Senate, except on the most rare of occasions or when his vote may be needed to break a tie.In the absence of the Vice President, the President Pro Tempore of the Senate (or his/her designee) presides. By tradition, the most senior senator of the majority party is the President Pro Tempore of the Senate. Presently, that is is Sen. Robert Byrd of West Virginia. Sen. Byrd is also the oldest and longest serving senator.
