The Star of David is the Royal Emblem of King David and the Royal Coat of Arms for his family line- commonly known as the House of David. According to tradition, King David chose this symbol because the first and last letters of his name 'D' in the ancient Hebrew alphabet look just like two triangles. By inverting the last letter D' (downward-pointing triangle in ancient Hebrew) and combining it with the first letter (upward-pointing triangle in Ancient Hebrew) the inevitable result would be what is commonly known as the Star of David. Geometrically speaking it is a perfectly symmetrical hexagram composed of two same-sized equilateral triangles combined together as one figure, but pointing in opposite directions.

The Star of David is significant in countless ways and more than a few books have been written about this very topic. The main point to remember is that every single number which the Bible considers to be especially important, or even sacred (3, 7, 12), can be directly connected to the physical shape and form of the Star of David. In terms of the number 3, the Star of David is comprised of two equilateral triangles, with each having 3 sides of equal length. They are combined together to form a 6-pointed star-like object with 3 points above and 3 points below.

The Star of David is also a classic 7-part geometric shape corresponding to other biblical sets of 7 such as the 7 Astrological Spheres, 7 Days of Creation, 7 Heavens, 7 Archangels, etc. Interestingly enough, the Star of David's 7 basic components can be categorized in a 6 +1 format just like many other Biblical sets of 7. These can be listed briefly:

6 Points + 1 Hexagon = 7 Parts of the Star of David

6 Days of Creation + 1 Day of Rest = 7 Days of Creation

6 Archangels + 1 Leader Michael = 7 Archangels of God

6 Heavens + 1 Throne of God = 7 Heavens

6 Planets + 1 Sun = 7 Astrological Spheres

Finally, the number 12, which the Biblical tradition still considers one of the most important, can be viewed in two distinct ways. First, the Star of David has precisely 12 external sides which represent the differing defensive positions of the 12 tribes of Israel. This includes when the 12 tribes are encamped somewhere for the night and are responsible in guarding and defending each of the 12 external sides of the perimeter. It also indicates when they are on the offensive, and marching off in battle-formation to conquer the Promised Land.

Lastly, the Star of David is not only 12-sided but can also be subdivided perfectly into 12 triangular segments that are the exact same shape and size (6 inner triangles matching 6 outer points). Symbolically, this represents one of the key elements found in the Old Testament about how each tribe of Israel is meant to inherit an equal share of the Holy Lands and will be given an equal voice in the decision-making pertaining to the United Kingdom of Israel. In short, the 12 equal segments of the Star of David symbolizes how each tribe is destined to get an equal slice of the pie.
