Who is the ultimate god in Hinduism?

To be able to answer this question we must know the seven Hindu gods representing the seven basic forces we are endowed with. This is because every Hindu believes that his god is the supreme.

The seven basic gods:

They are,

1. Dreaming force - Indra

2. Illusory force - Shakti

3. Voluntary force - Brahma

4. Semi voluntary force - Vishnu

5. Involuntary force - Shiva

6. Status altering force - Shani

7. Compulsive force - Yama

It is obvious that these are spcialist gods and can't be used reliably under all circumstances.

Comparison of Hindu gods:

The Dreaming/ Indra force is the most economical and best suited to hibernate when the real world is harsh. However, it may make us spend our entire time in our dream world only.

Compulsive/ Yama force is the most powerful but most power consuming and the least reliable.

The Illusory/ Shakti force create an illusion that all is allright. Though they are better than Indra in Hinduism their worship is not encouraged.

The Status altering/ Shani force too is a last resort selection because it keeps changing our staus often

This leaves the Trimurti forces, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva

Voluntary/ Brahma force is not worshipped because it is an experimental force.

Semi voluntary/ Vishnu force is the default force and therefore, worship of Vishnu is an absolute must. Vishnu is the epitome of gods and we can have a glimpse of all the remaining gods if we use the Vishnu force. He can be considered as the supreme god.

Involuntary/ Shiva force is more powerful than Vishnu force and we can depend on Shiva when Vishnu fails. Though more powerful, Shiva is not for routine use, even though there are people who worship Shiva only.

Brahman/ The god selector:

Above the seven gods is Brahman - the god selector. Brahman has properties common to all the seven gods. Thus, he is the souce of the seven gods. Brahman is thus our life in the most condensed form.

Brahman can be considered as the supreme god. However, to be able to use it we must not only have a thorough knowledge of the seven Hindu gods abut also the situations in which we are going to use Brahman.

Brahman is the least understood god and is thus the least popular, in spite of its might.

The supreme Hindu god:

For any one who can understand and use Brahman, it is undoubtedly the supreme god.

The rest have select one of the two gods.

1. Vishnu - because, he is our default god and is useful always

2. Shiva - because he is mightier than Vishnu, though useful under fewer conditions.

These two gods are therefore supposed to come into play after our death.

3. Illusory/ Shakti gods are also difficult to use because we may just be satisfied in creating an illusion that we have become greater.

4. Status altering god/ Shani too is difficult to use because we may change our status too often and may start using the wrong status and thus become lavish and arrogant.

This leaves the Trimurti gods to be fit to considered as the supreme gods.

5. Brahma is the creator of a new life after our life is devastated completely. Brahma is an experimental force. Being a transient force its use leads to frequent changes in our life. More over, he enables us to lead a bad parallel life totally detached from our life. Therefore, he is worshiped rarely.

Thus, only Vishnu and Shiva are fit to be considered as supreme gods.

The god selector/Brahman:

Above the seven basic gods is Brahman. Brahman is nothing but the properties common to the seven gods. Thus, the seven gods seem to originate from Brahman. Brahman is the real omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient god. Thus, it is ideally suited to be the supreme Hindu god.

However, no one has even succeeded in having a clear idea of what Brahman may be. Thus, though the most powerful, it is not a popular god.

The supreme Hindu god:

For those who can understand and use Brahman it is undoubtedly the supreme Hindu god.

For others it is either Vishnu or Shiva.
