the American and ENGLISH soldiers are fighting against the taliban and other mast terrorist groups around the area of Iraq
Everything was peaceful in Iraq people living normal lives. No terrorism, no weapons. In America everything was fine too. The only war we were fighting was Afghanistan (2001). Then, America came in and attacked Iraq.
The majority of the Iraq War was urban warfare where soldiers would be fighting unmarked guerrilla units in close quarters in areas of dense population.
Korea/Vietnam part of the cold war; fighting communist aggression. Operation Desert Storm January & February 1991-removal of Iraq from Kuwait. Operation Iraqi Freedom 2003-removal of Saddam Hussain from power in Iraq. Currently trying to restore law, order, and stability in the region.
This question assumes that the fighting was concentrated in large cities and names Baghdad and Tehran. This is not the case. The majority of the fighting was in rural and quasi-urban territory near the Iraqi-Iranian border and the Iranian Province of Khuzestan. The reason that the war was centered here was that Saddam Hussein's principal war objective was the annexation of Khuzestan Province for Iraq.
The war in Vietnam, the Korean War, World War 1, World War 2...were fought against Nations (countries). The United States is NOT at war with Iraq nor Afghanistan. The US is at war with insurgents/terrorists (criminals that attacked New York City on 9/11); they just happen to be in the Iraq/Afghanistan regions.
The Iraq war
The Iraq War began in 2003 and ended in 2011. The Insurgency in Iraq began in 2005 and continues to this day. (The difference in terminology is that the Iraq War was foreign powers fighting in Iraq to secure the country and the Insurgency is the Iraqi Government fighting in Iraq to secure the country.

Iraq and Iran
Last count, they were providing security forces.
They're actively involved in fighting the War of Terror in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Afghans did not participate in the Iran-Iraq War. During this period, Afghanistan was fighting the Soviet Union and trying to repel them from the country. However, Afghans were alive during the Iran-Iraq War. (So, technically speaking, there were Afghans during the Iran-Iraq War, just not in that war.)
The British were fighting against the Turks, aided as they were by the Germans, in Iraq & Palestine.
