Once freed, the nation followed Moses through desert for more than forty years during which time God promised to lead them to a land flowing with milk and honey. They eventually did reach this place (now assumed to have existed in the region of Palestine) and successfully conquered the people that lived there. Because of this struggle, the Holy Land is incredibly important to the Jewish people and their culture.
