Here's who fought during World War II and their respective alliances (sides): Axis Powers: Italy, Germany, and Japan. Allies (Allied Powers): Great Britain, the United States, France, and the Soviet Union (now called Russia).
The Free French Forces (Forces Françaises Libres in French) were French fighters in World War II, who decided to continue fighting against Axis forces after the surrender of France and German occupation, following the call of General De Gaulle, and the de jure government ('Free French Government') of France in exile as of June 18, 1940.
Three of the topics discussed at the Yalta Conference were: The unconditional surrender of Germany, which was the main priority. Soviet leader Stalin agreed to fight against the Empire of Japan within 90 days of the fall of Germany. Nazi war criminals were to be tracked down and subjected to trial.

Many Free French evacuated from Dunkirk, alongside the British Expeditionary forces in June 1940 (The British, French and Polish had agreed to support each other in the event of war with Germany). The French and British allies made it back to Britain to reform the armies that would eventually take the fight back to Nazi Germany. The Free French fought in all services - Army, Navy and Air Force - as well as with the SOE (Special Operations Executive) - a risky business of dropping agents behind enemy lines to rally French citizens in the Resistance against the German occupation of their country by means of sabotage, disruption, and intelligence - to eventually lead to the liberation of their country. Many French during the Battle of France (and I believe Belgian units were involved too), gave their lives, or were captured while covering the BEF retreat. Those were dark days, but the Dunkirk evacuation meant that the British, along with their French comrades, could reform, build up and go back to liberate Europe from the Nazi occupation. The fight against Germany required manpower - trained troops - who they would continue training, and retraining. After Dunkirk there was the Battle of Britain, when Germany tried to eliminate British air forces so that they could invade by sea. French fighter pilots, along with Poles, Czechs, American, Belgian, Dutch, Canadian, South African etc. contributed to the Battle of Britain. Some of the aces (highest kill rates against the Luftwaffe - 5 kills plus) were non-British nationals. The Free French fought in all conflict zones under British direction. They wore British army or air force uniforms, but it was distinct on their uniform if they were a French unit there were French, Polish and Czech RAF squadrons in the RAF. The Free French fought from North Africa to Madagascar, sometimes against their own countrymen (the Vichy French - who collaborated with Germany). As an occupied Nation, and one that rallied against Germany during WW2 - the French were entitled to be an occupying force in the defeated Germany. They had earned it. Check out General De Gaul - he was the leader of the Free French. Also, check out the Vichy French leader - Marshall Petain. Hope that helps.
