John Logie Baird was the first to demonstrate black and white television in 1925 and in 1928 he showed off a full color television system. It was a cumbersome set of equipment using three spinning discs and it never got past an experimental stage. However, he showed he principle of mixing three colors to generate full color in a television system and those principles are still in use today.
The first public use of color television was in 1952 in the US although the service was not a commercial success and was withdrawn after only a few months. In 1954, a new color service was launched using the NTSC color encoding standard which is still in use today.
Europe was somewhat later to introduce color with the BBC in England starting regular broadcasts in 1967.
