Nearly all US ordnance/weapons were subcontracted out to various companies from WWII through the Vietnam War. For example Singer Sewing Machine made some firearms; Ithaca manufactured some Colt .45 pistols, etc.

The US Mark 2 "pineapple" grenade, produced from just after WWI thru the Korean War (1950-1953) had a serrated shell resembling a pineapple, thus earning that name. The serrations were intended to evenly spread the shrapnel, but tests showed that those grooves were not necessary.

The US Mk II was replaced by the M26, a SMOOTH grenade with no serrations, but retaining the same shape as the pineapple grenade (the M61 was the same grenade but modified with a "jungle clip", a safety wire to hold the spoon (handle) in place). The jungle clip was designed for the Vietnam War, as servicemen in the jungles used the grenade's handle to attach the frag grenade to their uniforms and rucksacks (back-packs). If the pin worked it's way out, and the spoon was pulled off it caused accidental explosions, as when the spoon was accidently pulled off, the frag was armed and detonated. The jungle clip provided an extra "tie on" to keep the handle (spoon) in place. Although some people may have called the M26 (M61) a lemon shaped grenade, most GI's in Vietnam called it the "smooth pineapple" frag.

The M67, replaced the M26 (M61) in Vietnam, being the newest frag issued to the GIs for the war in Vietnam. It was shaped like a Baseball for easier throwing, and was referred to as the "new baseball grenade" by the GIs. Most servicemen in Vietnam first saw this frag in about 1969. All baseball frags had a jungle clip on them.

What is the body of a grenade made of?

Depends on which grenade. Assuming you mean the standard fragmentation grenade used by the US military, they are made from sheet steel. Coiled inside of the body is a steel spring, notched in over 900 places. On detonation, the steel spring breaks apart at the notches, and the bits become projectiles. For the WW 2 era fragmentation grenade, the bodies were iron castings.
