Amoxicillin + Potassium Clavulanate (Amox tr-K, 875 mg - a member of the penicillin drugs) has been available for a number of years, so it is manufactured by more than one drug company. When a drug first comes on the market, it is usually by the company that developed it. That company spent millions of dollars and many years developing and testing the drug, so they are allowed (I think) ten years to recoup their expenses before the drug becomes available in generic form, at which time all drug companies can then manufacture it. But even then, it may still be available in name brand (as opposed to generic) by the company that first developed it.
