The inspired books of the Old Testament were given to the Israelites to preserve for us, today.
"This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A Prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him ye shall hear. This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the Angel which spake to him in the Mount Sina, and with OUR FATHERS: WHO RECEIVED THE LIVELY ORACLES TO GIVE TO US..." (Acts 7:37-38).
This New Testament passage is attested to by Stephen, "...a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit..." (Acts 6:5) - who, while his exact lineage isn't literally disclosed, insinuates himself also to be an Israelite by including himself in his statement of "OUR fathers."
His summary of the history of their nation... along with his assertion of the preservation of the Scriptures... were the last words he spoke before his brothers became enraged and stoned him to death [Acts 7:59-60].
The New Testament books, also, were inspired and written by Israelites... Jesus' called-out disciples... and later, Paul: "...a man of the tribe of Benjamin..." - [Acts 13:21].
"...For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin." (Rom.11:1)
So, all the books of the Bible [the Lively Oracles] have been preserved by Abraham's children, the Israelites. Even the New Testament books were prophesied in the Old:
"...Bind up [complete] the testimony, seal the law AMONG MY DISCIPLES." (Isa.8:16)
In the end, however... it was Jesus Christ, the Almighty Creator God of the Old Testament [John 1:3 & 10], the God of Abraham, who orchestrated the inspiration, preservation and assembly of His Word "TO GIVE TO US" in these last days.
It is easier to remember the books of the bible if you break them down into groups and learn the groups. Once you have learned the groups you can put them together to list every book of the Bible.
The Bible was written over a period of time in separate books. These books are what the bible consists of. Since Adam was created about 6,000 years ago (you get this number by referencing the genealogy in the Bible) you can safely assume it was after that.
The Bible was written over a period of 1400 to 1800 years by more than 40 different authors, between approx 1450 BCE and 100 CE, in several languages. We don't know who the early collectors of the books were.
The bible that is used by the Christians, that is the old and new testaments, was put together by the Catholic church.
All Christians realize that if God has revealed Himself by communicating His will to man, man must be able to know with assurance where that revelation lies. Hence the need for a list (i.e. canon) of books of the Bible. In other words, man needs to know without error (i.e. infallibly) what the books of the Bible are. There must be an authority which will make that decision. The canon of the Bible refers to the definitive list of the books which are considered to be divine revelation and included therein. A canon distinguishes what is revealed and divine from what is not revealed and human. Because God did not explicitly reveal what books are the inspired books of the Bible, title by title, to anyone, we must look to His guidance in discovering the canon of the Bible. Christians believe this guidance comes from the Holy Spirit and there has been a constant history of faithful people from Paul's time through the Apostolic Church (Catholic and Orthodox). Thus, Bibles that reject certain books came from the reformation and heretics that rejected this teaching of divine inspiration. These books are nacent compared to the first canon which was put together in the same century as Christ's death.Roman Catholic AnswerThe Catholic Bible is the Christian Bible, and has been around for two thousand years. You are asking why the protestants have less books than the Christian Bible and that is because those books have beliefs in them that make them uncomfortable. As they only have the Bible to look to for their beliefs, they removed the books that talked about things they considered "Catholic".
The books that make up the Bible were written by many different people. However in 393 at the synod of Hippo it was decided what books would be in the Bible. In 400 the first Latin Bible was translated by Jerome (and others).

Do put pressure on her, and do not have her do everything for you, another thing is, read your Bible, the Bible can also tell you how to be faithful to your wife, read the Bible together, and pray together.
The Hebrew Bible has the same books in it as the Protestant Old Testament, it just combines some books that we divide in two (1&2 Kings, 1&2Chronicles, 1&2Samuel into just Kings, Chronicles, and Samuel and they combine the books of Ezra and Nehemiah into one), and places them in a different ordering scheme (which in and of itself is interesting, for ex. Daniel is not listed among the Prophets but is in the Writings section). The total number of Books in the Hebrew Bible is 35 versus the 39 in the Protestant Old Testament.
