1 Peter 5:13 has Peter refer to Mark as his son. Because of this statement, it became widely accepted that Mark wrote the memoirs of Peter, in the form of the Gospel that now bears Mark's name.

Unfortunately, most New Testament scholars and even many theologians accept that First Peter was not really written by the apostle Peter. In other words, it was a pseudepigraphical epistle written late in the first century or early in the second century, using Peter's name in order to have the message of the epistle more widely accepted among Christians. Peter, himself, never called Mark his son and very possibly never even met him.
