If you think about it, the native Americans, the "indians" were the original owners of the land from time immemorial and the "Americans" (the colonists) stole it from them and killed them in vast numbers by war, and disease. Thus how can the Americans "give up" new lands to the Indians. If there were any Justice the land should all be given back to the Native american peoples and compensation paid for the theft, massacres and oppression they have suffered. A similar story applies to the native Hawaiian people and the Australian aboriginal people.
