Because he receives so many messages, Mr. Obama has a staff who read them, including hand-written or typed letters as well as electronic messages like e-mails and tweets. In some cases, the members of the communication staff will select some letters and e-mails and give them directly to the president, who will respond personally. But usually, the staff members (who were specially selected by the president for this job) are the ones who will respond.

Mr. Obama also tweets sometimes. Most of the tweets sent from the White House are sent by his staff, with his approval; but when he personally sends one, he attaches his initials to the end of it, so you know it came from him directly.
