Who started the EU? The EU is a collection of countries all together. It began in six countries which were, # Germany # Italy # France # Luxemburg # Netherlands # Belgium The EU was primarily started by Jean Monnet, who pursuaded Robert Schuman to go ahead with his plans.

Some have interpreted statements by Winston Churchill to indicate that he initiated the European Union. This is not correct, as also indicated by the fact that Great Britain is not a founding member of the EU. What Churchill envisioned was, after the Berlin airlift crisis, embodied in the North Atlantic Treaty and the corresponding organisation, NATO.
