The NWT committee went back to the oldest manuscripts available, and translated into modern English, bypassing other translations completely.Interestingly, due to modern archeological discoveries, the manuscripts that are available now, are older than the ones available when the King James Version was translated, such as the Dead Sea Scrolls that have portions that predate the time of Jesus and the apostles.

The committee that worked on the NWT wished to remain anonymous. Although they were all dedicated Witnesses they wanted the emphasis to be on their work and not on their individual personalities. In regard to this, page 258 of the book Jehovah'sWitnesses in the Divine Purposenotes: "The one request of the translation committee was that its members remain anonymous even after their death." The Watchtower Society has honoured that agreement and respected their wishes.

Other translation committees have taken a similar view. The jacket of the Reference Edition (1971) of the NewAmerican Standard Bible states: "We have not used any scholar's name for reference or recommendations because it is our belief God's Word should stand on its merits." The quick : No one translated it from Greek and Hebrew, an English translation was rewritten to fit their beliefs.

The more complicated is the committee wanted to be anonymous because none of them could translate from Greek or Hebrew. The following list of translators of the New World Translation is a compilation from a variety of sources:

Frederick W. Franz: Main translator. Took liberal arts sequence at University of Cincinnati; 21 semester hours of classical Greek, some Latin. Partially completed a two-hour survey course in Biblical Greek in junior year; course titled "The New Testament--A course in grammar and translation." Left in spring of 1914 before completing junior year. Self-taught in Spanish, biblical Hebrew and Aramaic. Entered Brooklyn headquarters facility of Watchtower Society in 1920. Probable ghost writer for J. F. Rutherford (2nd president of WTS) from late 1920s through 1942. Vice president of WTS from 1942 to 1977, president from 1977 until death in 1992 at age 99.

Nathan H. Knorr: No training in biblical languages. Entered Brooklyn headquarters in 1923; 3rd president of WTS from 1942 to 1977. Died 1977 at age 72.

Milton G. Henschel: No training in biblical languages. Private secretary and traveling companion to N. H. Knorr from late 1940s until early 1970s. 4th president of WTS from 1992 to 2000. Still living.

Albert D. Schroeder: No training in biblical languages. Took 3 years of mechanical engineering, unspecified language courses in college, dropped out in 1932 and soon entered Brooklyn headquarters. Registrar of "Gilead School" from 1942 to 1959. Still living.

Karl Klein: No training in biblical languages. Entered Brooklyn headquarters in 1925; member of Writing Dept. since 1950. Died 2001 at age 96.

George D. Gangas: No training in biblical languages. Greek-speaking Turkish national, entered Brooklyn headquarters in 1928 as a Greek translator from English to modern Greek publications. Died 1994 at age 98.

JUST SOME REFERENCES: As to appropriateness' of translations rather some important names behind the scholarly work!

Interestingly, the jacket of the 1971 Reference Edition of the New American Standard Bible similarly stated: "We have not used any scholar's name for reference or recommendations because it is our belief God's Word should stand on its merits."

The New Testament in the Original Greek, by Westcott and Hort, served as the basic Greek text. R. Kittel's Biblia Hebraica was the basic text for the Hebrew Scriptures.

Since many people are bilingual, it is believed that the Bible, in whole or in part, is translated in enough languages to be read by over 90 percent of the earth's population.

"The translation of the New Testament is evidence of the presence in the movement of scholars qualified to deal intelligently with the many problems of Biblical translation."

SCHOLARS PRAISE THE NEW WORLD TRANSLATION

REGARDING the New World Translation of the Christian Greek Scriptures, Edgar J. Goodspeed, translator of the Greek "New Testament" in An American Translation, wrote in a letter dated December 8, 1950: "I am interested in the mission work of your people, and its world wide scope, and much pleased with the free, frank and vigorous translation. It exhibits a vast array of sound serious learning, as I can testify."

Hebrew and Greek scholar Alexander Thomson wrote: "The translation is evidently the work of skilled and clever scholars, who have sought to bring out as much of the true sense of the Greek text as the English language is capable of expressing."-The Differentiator, April 1952, pages 52-7.

Professor Benjamin Kedar, a Hebrew scholar in Israel, said in 1989: "In my linguistic research in connection with the Hebrew Bible and translations, I often refer to the English edition of what is known as the New World Translation. In so doing, I find my feeling repeatedly confirmed that this work reflects an honest endeavor to achieve an understanding of the text that is as accurate as possible."

NONE OF THE ABOVE are Jehovah's Witnesses!

The New World Bible Translation Committee made up of a group of Jehovah's Witnesses bible scholars, requested that its members remain anonymous. The Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania has honored their request. Names often linked with the translation (Franz, Knorr, Alber Schroeder... ect. represented the PUBLISHERS (not the translators) of the NWT.

a catholic scholar translated it to its fullest and the catholics threw it out because it went against their religious business plans

What is not common knowledge is that no one on the committee translating the Jehovah witness bible had a understanding of the languages they were supposed to be translating. They were sued, and admitted in open court they could not read, write or understand the writing they were charged with translating
