Goliath was from Gath:-

1Sa 17:4 And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.

Goliath had four brothers -the name of one is unknown, but the others were Ishbibenob, Saph, and Lahmi,

2Sa 21:22 These four were born to the giant in Gath, and fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

Ishbibenob:-

2Sa 21:16-17 And Ishbibenob, which was of the sons of the giant, ...thought to have slain David. (v.17) But Abishai the son of Zeruiah succoured him, and smote the Philistine, and killed him....

Saph:-

2Sa 21:18 And it came to pass after this, that there was again a battle with the Philistines at Gob: then Sibbechai the Hushathite slew Saph, which was of the sons of the giant.

Lahmi:-

2Sa 21:19 And there was again a battle in Gob with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaareoregim, a Bethlehemite, slew the brother of Goliath the Gittite [that is, 'Lahmi'- see 1Chron 20:5],...

Name Unknown :-

2Sa 21:20-21 And there was yet a battle in Gath, where was a man of great stature,... and he also was born to the giant. (v.21) And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea the brother of David slew him.

Millions of young children have been taught the famous story from the First Book of Samuel, of David slaying the Philistine giant, Goliath, to guide them to understand the greatness of David and, perhaps, his God. Another episode, at 2 Samuel 21:19, indirectly casts some doubt on the legend of David and Goliath. The Hebrew Bible in English (JPS 1917 Edition) says: "And there was again war with the Philistines at Gob; and Elhanan the son of Jaare-oregim the Beth-lehemite slew Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam." There could only have been one Goliath, so who slew him?

1 Chronicles, written later and apparently dependent on Samuel, attempted to resolve this in two ways. First, there is no mention of David killing Goliath, even though the Book of Samuel presents this at the most important single feat leading to David being accepted as a potential king. Second, at 20:5, the book says that Lahmi (presumably Elhanan) killed the brother of Goliath.

I cited the Hebrew Bible (in English translation) for the episode of Elhanan killing Goliath (2 Samuel 21:19), rather than a derived Christian translation. The King James (KJV) adds 'the brother of' [in italics to indicate that this was not an exact translation], but most other English translations of the Book of Samuel seem to have continued with the Hebrew Bible version. So, for readers of the King James Bible, there were two brothers of Goliath. But no name is given in either the Book of Samuel or Chronicles.

A:The famous story of David slaying the Philistine giant, Goliath, is to be found in 1 Samuel chapter 17. Another episode, at 2 Samuel 21:19 casts further light on the legend of Goliath, with another tradition that Elhanan killed Goliath. The Hebrew Bible in English (JPS 1917 Edition) says:

And there was again war with the Philistines at Gob; and Elhanan the son of Jaare-oregim the Beth-lehemite slew Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.

1 Chronicles, written later and apparently dependent on the Deuteronomist history, makes no mention of David killing Goliath, but says that Lahmi killed the brother of Goliath.

The King James (KJV) translation has adopted the Chronicler solution for 2 Samuel 21:19, so that we do not have two different traditions for killing the same opponent, adding 'the brother of' [in italics to indicate that this was not an exact translation], but most other English translations of the Book of Samuel seem to have continued with the Hebrew Bible version. So, in the KJV and certain other translations, Elhanan also killed the brother of Goliath, but only David killed Goliath himself.
