The realization that traits and certain diseases can be passed from parent to offspring stretches back at least to the ancient Greeks, well before any genome was actually decoded. People often said that people and other things showed that they were 'blended' and that they showed traits from mom and dad that were blended.
That changed when a monk from Austria noted that when he bred pea plants that different out comes were seen. He spent many years keeping notes and records for the monastery.

The first person to put heredity to the test was Gregor Mendel, who systematically tracked dominant and recessive traits in his famous pea plants. Mendel published his work on the statistics of genetic dominance in 1866 to little notice.

But the painstaking work of cross-breeding pea plants wouldn't be unnoticed for long. In 1869, Swiss physician Johannes Friedrich Miescher became the first scientist to isolate nucleic acids, the active ingredient of DNA. Now the ideas that Mendel proposed made sense.

Gregor Mendel was a little-known monk in central Europe, later becoming 'the father of genetics' by studying dominant and recessive traits in reproduced pea plants, therefore discovering that some of the parents' traits rule over the other, and so on.

He discovered basic laws of Genetics and is called founder of genetics .

he is the father of genetics he wanted to understand how sex cells formedalso he was a monk that gardened in the monastery where he practiced his religion.
Gregor Mendel (1822 - 1884) was a monk who discovered the basic laws of inheritance (genetics). While at the monastery of St Thomas in Brunn, Austria (later part of Czechoslovakia) he carried out extensive breeding experiments using pea plants.

He explained his results by assuming that each inherited characteristic eg plant height, pea colour etc, was controlled by a pair of 'factors' which we now call genes. One factor (gene) is inherited from each parent and is passed on to the next generation unchanged (except for accidental mutations. This contradicted the prevailing ideas of 'blending inheritance', in which the 'blood' of two parents somehow mixes or blends in their offspring.

He also suggested that the factors (genes) could exist in two alternative types - dominant or recessive. We now call these alternative versions of a gene alleles. Dominant alleles produce their characteristic eg tall plants, whether they are inherited from one or both parents. Recessive alleles only produce an effect eg short plants, if they are inherited from both parents. This explains how a characteristic can 'disappear' in one generation and reappear in a later one. If a recessive and a dominant allele are inherited together the recessive allele will not produce its effect but it can be passed on unchanged to the next generation.

Mendel's work is remarkable because very little was known about cells and the behaviour of chromosomes at the time, and nothing was known about genes. He worked out his 'Laws of Inheritance' purely on the basis of the numerical results he obtained. This was one of the reasons for his success where other people had failed - he carried out large numbers of experiments and counted the exact numbers of each variety produced in the offspring.

He was helped by his choice of pairs of characteristics which showed clearly contrasting features eg tall or short plants, with no 'in-betweens' so he could clearly assign each individual to one group of the other.

The laws Mendel discovered were applicable not just to pea plants, nor just to plants but to animals as well, including humans. His work was the start of the scientific study of inheritance, which is now called genetics.
the father of genetics

and he was famous for disposeing the traits of pea plants
Gregor johnn mendle was a genius am mature priest by profession who worked on the the genetics of pea plants growing in his yard and gave the first concept of genes, he also gave laws named as law of independent assortment and law of segregation....

Gregor Johann Mendel (July 20, 1822 - January 6, 1884) was an Augustinian priest and scientist, and is often called the father of genetics for his study of the inheritance of traits in pea plants....

He discovered very necessary components of genetics by learning about dominant and recessive genes. In his early studies, he used this knowledge to determine the color of pea plants, about which he conducted exhaustive studies.
