Henry "The Young King" was the second son of Henry II of England and Eleanor of Aquitaine. The first son died, leaving Henry next in line for the kingship. In 1170, Henry II had Henry the younger crowned as king. No real responsibility was ever given to Henry the younger, however, and he revolted against Henry II in 1173. The tipping point was when land was granted to his younger brother, John (who later became the unpopular King John) that Henry felt should have been given to him. The revolution was supported by Henry "the Young King"'s father-in-law, the king of France. It lasted 18 months. The younger Henry was taken back into Henry II's court, and spent much of his time competing in tournaments. He joined in a rebellion against his father and his brother Richard (the Lionheart, the crusader who would become king) in 1183. He died of dysentery while on campaign. His only child died in infancy, so he left no heirs. Source: England Under the Norman and Angevin Kings 1075-1225, by Robert Bartlett
